Can you get a passport faster than that of Expedited service?
  • This can be done through the Regional Office in San Francisco, only by appointment with proof of eminent travel.
    • OR
  • Also done by use of Hand Carry services through an official courier and Acceptance Facility.
  • SPECIAL NOTE: Never use any commercially sponsored online services. Always refer to the government online encrypted site travel.state.gov for all passport needs and or visit an official Passport Acceptance Facility.
What is the difference between the DS-11 and the DS-82 forms?
  • DS-11 is the New US Passport form executed by any official acceptance facility.
  • DS-82 is the DIY Passport Renewal form that is not executed by any official acceptance facility, after reviewing the “Can I Use This Form” questions on page 1.
Are minor passports renewable?
  • Minor issued passports are never renewable.
  • If the passport has five years or less validity, they are not renewable.
Are both parents required to be present with a minor applicant?
  • If the applicant is aged 16 or 17, only one parent must be present. With the exception, of parental consent through the application or personal check AND valid California Driver’s License of applicant.
  • If the applicant is ages 0 to 15 both parents must be present.
How does parental consent work for minor applicants?
  • If both parents are listed on the birth certificate, both parents have legal rights and both must be present with the applicant.
  • If only one parent is listed on the birth certificate, only that parent need be present with the applicant.
  • If one parent is giving consent, use DS-3053 form following the “IMPORTANT” instructions.
Why is there a different fee for Routine Processing and Expedite Processing?
  • Routine Processing comes at no extra cost and the length of time varies depending on the season.
  • Expedite Processing comes at an additional cost and is also variable depending on the season. However, your expedited passport will be processed faster than routine processing.
What are the acceptable forms of payment for the Execution Fee and the Application Fee?
  • Application Fee must be a check written to the U.S. Department of State and gets submitted with the application.
  • Execution Fee can be paid with cash, check or charge to the Acceptance Facility.
What is the difference between a Passport Book and a Passport Card?
  • Book allows for international travel by land, air, and sea.
  • Card allows for travel by land or sea to Mexico, Canada, Bermuda, and Caribbean countries.
Do I need to bring copies of my documents?
  • All copies needed for the application will be made complimentary from the originals provided. Any additional copies can be made for a small fee.
Does the Law Library take passport photos?
  • No. All passport photos need to be obtained from passport photo establishment or on your own and brought at the time of appointment.
